Located on Broad St near downtown Regina, Selam Restaurant is a casual dining restaurant serving up classic Ethiopian food made fresh to order.
Selam Regina opened it's doors in July 2003 and is Regina's only gluten-free restaurant serving Ethiopian cuisine. Our mission is to share this exotic cuisine city-wide!
Imagine finger food filled with the wholesome nutrition of a home-cooked meal served in giant platters, and you'll begin to understand what Ethiopian cuisine is all about.
Ethiopian food offers a bold combination of sweet, salty, and sour flavours (spicy optional). There is often an aspect of creativity in each dish where contrasting flavours such as sweet and salty are paired together to create delicious combinations. Ethiopian cuisine has many cultural and traditional recipes handed down for generations, perfected into a combination of dishes.
At Selam Restaurant we serve up classic Ethiopian dishes with herbs and spices that aren't too common these days. You can have it mild or spicy! Our food is available for dine-in, takeout, and delivery.
3000 Year Old Food. Made 3000 Years Later.

Ethiopian spiced coffee: a delicious plot twist
COFFEE: THE ORIGINS
It all began in Abyssinia (modern-day Ethiopia), the original home of the coffee (arabica) plant. Kaffa, a province in the south-western highlands where they first blossomed, gave its name to modern-day "coffee". The formal cultivation and use of coffee as a beverage began in Kaffa, Ethiopia early in the 9th century.
FEEL THE LOVE BREWING
Typically, roasted beans are infused with a blend of spices, and served. After letting it sit for a few minutes, you can taste the floral and citrus notes. In Ethiopian tradition, a social gathering with friends & family happens over rounds of coffee; called an "Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony". Three rounds of sweet brew infused with a blend of spices are served in tiny cups, and the third and final round is called "baraka" (to be blessed). Enjoy traditional incense and catch up over memories and good times with an exotic taste of sweet culture in your cup!
